Portable Pipe-Freezing Device For Rapid Repairs
A portable pipe-freezing device allows heating and plumbing systems to be maintained, repaired or modified without draining down or disrupting supplies.
Polar® System from Arctic Products can be used on copper, steel, lead and MDPE plastic pipes with outside diameters from 8mm to 61mm in domestic, commercial and industrial applications. Ice plugs are formed capable of withstanding water pressures in excess of 8.28 bar, providing watertight integrity for 20 to 30 minutes. This time can be extended simply by repeating the freezing procedure.
With the circulation pump switched off and the water static, one or two Polar® System freezing jackets are placed around the pipe and connected by push-fit tubing to the valve on a canister of spray freezing liquid.
The correct amount of spray, measured with weighing scales included in the package, is dispensed into the freezing jackets forming ice plugs inside the pipe within three minutes, depending on pipe diameter. For example, 100g of spray freezes a 15mm diameter pipe in less than two minutes.
The patented freezing jacket and injector system form ice directly inside the pipe – unlike some conventional pipe-freezing systems, which create ice within the jacket before starting to freeze water in the pipe. The freezing spray is 100% 134A liquid, with no added gas, and non-flammable.
Polar® Systems are available in a range of kits to suit various pipe diameters and applications. All are supplied in a carrying case containing everything required for single or double freezing, with at least one 700g disposable canister of freezing spray, plus valve, T-connector, tubing and weighing scale.
